You Can Rest, But You Cannot Quit

Sis, you are allowed to cry. You are allowed to rest. You are allowed to admit that this is hard.

Don’t Let This Define You

Micah 7:8 “Though I have fallen, I will rise.”

There are seasons in life when getting out of bed feels like a victory.

Not because you are lazy.
Not because you have lost your faith.
Not because you have given up.

But because life feels heavy.

Recently, I started a new medication for my CML treatment. Physically, it left me feeling exhausted, nauseated, achy, and unlike myself. Emotionally, it was just as difficult. I found myself feeling discouraged and, if I am being completely honest, feeling a little sorry for myself.

I stopped writing.
I stopped creating.
I stopped showing up in the ways that normally bring me joy.

And for a little while, I let my circumstances convince me that I needed to stay down.

When Life Knocks You Flat

Sometimes life hits harder than we expected.

A diagnosis.
A medication change.
Family struggles.
Financial stress.
Broken relationships.
Dreams that seem delayed.

And before we know it, we are sitting in the middle of our circumstances wondering how we got there.

There is nothing wrong with acknowledging that life hurts.

There is nothing wrong with crying.

There is nothing wrong with admitting that you are overwhelmed.

But there comes a moment when we have to decide whether we are going to camp out in discouragement or allow God to help us rise.

The Danger of Staying Down

Self-pity can feel comfortable.

It wraps itself around us and whispers:

  • “You deserve to give up.”

  • “This is too hard.”

  • “No one understands.”

  • “Maybe it’s easier if you just stop trying.”

And while our feelings are real, they were never meant to become our permanent address.

Psalm 34:18 reminds us: “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”

God is not disappointed in our tears.

He is near to us in them.

Healing Happens in the Waiting

Healing is not always immediate.

Sometimes it is slow.
Sometimes it is messy.
Sometimes it feels like two steps forward and one step back.

Jeremiah 30:17 says: “But I will restore you to health and heal your wounds,” declares the Lord.

What a beautiful promise.

God sees every wound—physical, emotional, and spiritual—and He is still in the business of restoration.

Don’t Let This Define You

This is the message God has been speaking to my heart.

Don’t let this define you.

Don’t let your diagnosis define you.

Don’t let your discouragement define you.

Don’t let your temporary season define your eternal purpose.

Don’t let your pain convince you that your story is over.

Proverbs 24:16 says: “Though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again.”

Notice it does not say they never fall.

It says they rise.

Strength for Today

We often think we need to feel strong before we move forward.

But God offers strength before we feel ready.

Isaiah 40:31 reminds us: “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.”

Not might renew.

Will renew.

That promise is for today.

My Circumstances Do Not Get the Final Say

The medication may be difficult.

The road may be uncertain.

Some days may still feel hard.

But my circumstances do not define me.

My diagnosis does not define me.

My difficult season does not define me.

God does.

And His Word says in Micah 7:8: “Though I have fallen, I will rise.”

If You Needed This Today

Maybe you are carrying something heavy.

Maybe you feel emotionally drained.

Maybe you have stopped dreaming, creating, or believing.

Maybe you have allowed your circumstances to convince you that this is where your story ends.

Sis, hear me when I say this:

You are allowed to rest.

You are allowed to cry.

You are allowed to admit that life feels unfair.

But you are not meant to stay on the floor.

Don’t let this define you.

God is still healing.
God is still restoring.
God is still writing your story.

And your story is far from over.

Prayer

Lord, thank You for meeting me in my weakness. When I feel discouraged, remind me that You are near. Restore my strength, heal what hurts, and help me rise again. Teach me to trust You in every season and to believe that my circumstances do not have the final word. Amen.
